5 Things to consider In Starting a FARM
WATER
- Water is gold when it comes to farming. If you have source of water such as river or creek, the better. You will need it in irrigation / watering your crops.
- You can also start a fish pond if you have natural source of waer.
- If not, make sure you have deep well and water pump to get enough water.
SOIL
- You need to make sure the quality of your soil because sometimes they are too clayish or too sandy.
- If there is life in the soil, such as earthworms, it means the soil is rich and has good quality. That means you can grow quality crops as well.
Elevation
- Is your farm upland, midland or lowland? You need to know this so you can grow crops that are suited in your farm’s elevetion
- For ex. Upland-Baguio vegetables like cabbage, carrots, lettuce; or Lowland – Native vegetables like eggplant, okra tomatoes.
Neighborhood
- Check the neighborhood to know if your farm’s location is safe.
- You can also see what are the crops your neighbors are growing and animals that they are tending. Consider the smell of animals if there are any, and pests that could transfer to your farm.
Farmers
- You will need trust-worthy farmers who will work with you.
- The success of the farm depends on the farmers who guard, manage and take care of your farm.
- Give value to what they do and always appreciate their hard work.
